Blog by Jonathan Kyriacou (@kyriacou22 on Twitter). I am a scout in the OJHL (Jr. A) here in Toronto, ON. I often post blogs about my opinion on up-and-coming prospects that I watch when I'm at the rink, but today decided to blog about something a little different that will hopefully give you all an answer you've been looking for. Please note, due to privacy concerns I will not be releasing the full names of people mentioned in this article, instead I will put initials or something else.
It's a common question that has now been asked for months by hockey fans in the Twitterverse. Who is hockeyyinsiderr? The anonymous account, run by someone from the Montreal area who only goes by his twitter name and rather suspicious profile picture has become well known around the hockey world, but for the wrong reasons. He's often wrong, cocky and arrogant. All while refusing to identify himself to his 48,000 followers.
We aren't nearly stupid enough to actually believe this person worked for four NHL teams, 3 as a Pro Scout and 1 as an Assistant GM, so he claims, so who is he? Today, thanks to my boredom, I believe I found the answer.
It started with a trip to his Facebook account out of pure curiosity. Yes, there is an actual Hockeyy Insiderr account and not just a page. I noticed he had about 400 friends, so I decided to check out who was listed. I remembered a previous tweet in which he gave 3 combinations of initials that could belong to him, being DD, AD, and PM. I searched through his friends list, looking for people for initials with those he listed, because if he was stupid enough to make an anonymous account he's probably stupid enough to add himself on Facebook. There, I found five possible names:
D** D*****s
Al******* D*****
P******* Mo****
P*****k M*****-*****d
Ar**** D*****
The first clue would be to find what city they listed as their hometown, as everyone knows hockeyyinsiderr is from the Montreal area. Out of the five names, the two with the initials AD were the only ones from Quebec, although neither from Montreal. Al******* D***** is listed from Beloeil and the other from Quebec City. I then decided to check out another site in which the insiderr has an account to see if I could find more.
While scrolling through that site (site is some French name that I can't remember), I found another user in one of the forums mentioned something about hockeyyinsiderr residing in Beloeil, a suburb of Montreal just about 30 minutes from the city (coincidentally the place in which Al******* D**** listed as his hometown).
As there was no other info on AD's Facebook account besides his hometown and a picture, I went to Twitter. Luckily, there was an AD account. It was created around the same time Hockeyy Insiderr began gaining mass amounts of followers (late last year) but a tweet has never been sent from it. However, it did say he was following 9 people (and had 0 followers). Of those 9 people he followed, 7 are considered to be "Main Stream Media Hockey Insiders or Beat Reporters". The other 2 accounts were the Montreal Canadiens and an unrelated 2004 Olympian.
Seemed like all things were pointing right to this AD person. But I wasn't completely convinced AD could actually be the fraud behind the account. So I checked one more website: LinkedIn. This is what really made me believe that AD was Hockeyy Insiderr, as when I looked up AD's account, I found one under that person's name who listed themseleves as a self-employed Freelance Writer from the "Montreal, Canada Area".
So putting the pieces of the puzzle together, it appears as if AD is HI.
Now, who is AD? AD is a male from Boeleil, Quebec who is listed as being fluent in both English and French. His high school he attends or did attend not long ago was found too, but will not be said publicly. He appears to be an avid hockey fan, especially of the Habs, who enjoys reading the tweets of, well, hockey people such as Louis Jean and Bob McKenzie. His Facebook picture makes him appear as if he is between the ages of 17 and 22 (note: see bottom of page for new info). And the fact he appears to be kissing a lobster in his profile picture doesn't exactly make him seem normal, either. He also appears to have played minor hockey previously. As mentioned, he also credits himself as being a Freelance Writer who is self employed and only works on his own.
Now am I saying I'm certain that this is the identity of hockeyyinsiderr? No (hence the reason I'm not releasing the full name of the person or his school). But it does sound like it very well could be. However, we may never know for sure as the question-marked man would likely deny it and will most likely never release his full name. But the bottom line is, has hockeyyinsiderr ever worked or been anywhere close to working in the NHL? Nope. Has he ever played in the NHL like his Facebook bio says? Nope. Does he have any sort of legitimate contact within the NHL? Absolutely not.
Feel free to leave your comments below.
NEW: I have confirmed that AD is in fact 17 years old. He is born in 1995 and did in fact attend Ontario Hockey Academy previously, like hockeyyinsiderr's Facebook profile suggests.
Added: Seeing how this blog has unexpectedly become very popular, I would like to reiterate the fact that I'm not and never will be 100% sure of the identity given above. Just what the clues pointed to. I am not a reporter or investigator and most likely will never be (I prefer my real job). This was all in fun. Even if I am wrong, as I very well could be, the bottom line is that people shouldn't be listening to anonymous "insiders".
About Jonathan Kyriacou: I am a 16 year old (that's right, 16) from the east-end of Toronto. I am lucky enough to, at my young age, be moving into my third year of working in the hockey business. I worked as an intern with Pulver Sports, then moved on to work as a Scout in a paid position with Level-Up Sports Group, and now will be moving into team management for the first time as a Scout with OJHL's Wellington Dukes. Unlike hockeyyinsiderr, I do have an actual hockey job and am not afraid to release my age and name. I have absolutely no NHL team contacts.

ReplyDelete*LOL, sorry about the previous deletion "deserves to be ready" ... fail.
I am aware hockeyyinsiderr denied any truth to this blog on twitter. Just like I said he would, so I'm not surprised.
ReplyDeleteIf you look his facebook he went to Cuba a few weeks back and HI also said he "left the country"
ReplyDeleteI have a friend in common with him, will ask if he knows ;)
^ Perfect
ReplyDeleteA long while ago, he caused a couple of flame wars on Habsinsideout.com, one of most popular Habs fans sites before he disappeared from the site.
ReplyDeleteThe name of the guy you think is HI is Alexander (Alex) Dulude. For anyone reading this just look him up. He's definitely the guy JK is talking about.

ReplyDeleteAlex Dulude
Interesting read but why does it matter who he is? All this interest in his identity just plays into his idiotic social experimenting to see how many followers he can get and how popular he can become.
ReplyDeleteLet's talk hockey, not hockeyyyyyyyyyyy
haha hot damn, amazing detective work.
ReplyDeleteGreat work
ReplyDeleteHey, great article. I was just on his twitter account, and not suprisingly, he's going off on a rant about how he's not 17 years old, and in fact, he's 37 years old (https://twitter.com/HockeyyInsiderr/status/235111423842340864 and I have a picture to back it up just incase he deletes it). It seems to fit him that his "age" would be something rather simple (17 + 20 = 37), but that's not what set off my alarms. On his facebook (the hockeyy insiderr one) he says he graduated from the Ontario Hockey Academy in 2000, meaning that he was 18 in 2000. It's now 2012, so he should be 30. Unless he got held back for seven years (it doesn't seem that far fetched) it's pretty obvious that HI is AD.
ReplyDeleteJust some more tidbits. He also says he's an ex-NHL player, and insists he's 37. So, I just went back to look at players drafted in 2000, 2001 (because he "graduated" from the OHA in 2000), and 1993 to see if there was an AD, DD, or PM from Canada. 2000 and 2001 produced no results, but 1993 produced three, Adam Deadmarsh, Alex Duchesne and Dion Darling. Adam Deadmarsh was the only one who played in the NHL, and hasn't worked as a scout or an assistant GM.
DeleteAccording to my research there has never been any asst GM in the NFL that has the initials and age claimed by @HockeyyInsiderr not to mention the work experience claimed. Whether or not he is the guy you claim, which appears a bit dubious to me, he IS most certainly a liar and fraud like his compatriot @incarceratedbob
